From 1973 to today — the experience that has shaped aizell®

1973 in Gothenburg — where it all began

aizell® is not a technology experiment from a startup. It represents more than 50 years of expertise in elevating sales professionals, sales leadership, and commercial organisations to best-in-class standards.

In 1973, Lars-Ragnar Hellsten founded ISL Institute in Gothenburg. The starting point was clear:
that small and medium-sized enterprises should have the same — or even better — opportunities for professional development as large corporations.

The foundation of ISL’s business rested on three key pillars:

  • Professional sales training
  • Leadership development
  • Systematisation of business ideas into competitive commercial concepts


Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the company experienced rapid growth in Scandinavia and Europe, training thousands of sales professionals and leaders, while helping numerous businesses consolidate and expand their national and international presence.

The outcome was more than experience; it was knowledge of what actually works.

CRM grew — but the needs of sales functions were overlooked

As early as the late 1990s, ISL began working on web-based solutions through CMVW — Communication and Management Via Web. This was a time when cloud-based systems barely existed, while companies like Salesforce were just starting to establish themselves.

However, our hands-on experience in B2B sales made one thing evident: the majority of CRM systems focused on reporting and oversight, rather than enhancing sales professionals’ skills and raising everyday professional performance.

Over thirty years, we maintained an in-depth focus on sales functions, witnessing the shifts and transformations in the market:
